The monument is one of the earliest Ottoman monuments in the Castle of Ioannina (16th – 17th century), and is connected to the area of the Northeastern acropolis, where the Mosque of Aslan Pasha, the Medreses, the Hestia and the Turkish Library are located.<\/p>\n
The building presents the typical sequence of rooms, dictated by the rigid religious Islamic order for hamam ritual operation: the disrobing room (cold area) (1) with a central fountain, the lukewarm area (2) with the depilation and toilet small areas, the hot area: the main domed room in the center (3) and the private corner cells (4-5). Basins with taps were around the walls. The furnace (7) with the copper cauldron for heating the water and the water reservoir (6) on the upper part. Smoke from the fire and hot air circulated under the floor of the hot and tepid room, the hypocaust. Clay pipes run around the walls for the circulation of water and the heating of the space. “Mukarnas”, the characteristic Islamic ornament with the overlapping polyhedral surfaces, adorn the walls of the building.<\/p>\n
