The settlement of Ktismata is located at the northwestern end of the prefecture of Ioannina, on the Greek-Albanian borders. It is located at an altitude of 425m on the slopes of Mount Kasidiaris and in the valley of the Drinos River, which is an important natural passage to and from neighboring Albania. The passage is overseen by a Hellenistic acropolis, which crowns the hill of Agios Nikolaos, with a perimeter of walls of 1,500m or a coverage of 122 acres.  In the Acropolis a rectangular Hellenistic house with a peristyle courtyard and twelve rooms was excavated. It is measuring 27m by 24m and covers 650m². In the center of the village, part of a Roman farmhouse (villa rustica) was investigated, mainly used from the 1st century BC up to the 1st century AD. On its interior rich food remains and traces of domestic or other artisanal activities were found. The nearest area was occupied in historical years by the tribe of the Atintans (reference to Thucydides).
